Property development is much like any other economic activity, satisfying wants with the application of scarce resources. In the case of property devel­opment, the wants are for space to work in, sell from, live in and enjoy recreational activities in.

The process by which buildings are erected to pro­vide space employs the key factors of production : land for the site, capital for purchase of the land and materials, labour to erect a building and manage the process, and the entrepreneurship of the property developer to initiate the process and bring the pieces together.
